9/11 Manhattan, New York Twin Towers attack memories: She was the one!

The first day was all smoke, debris, organized mayhem, and pure disbelief. The next day, reality hit home. That's when you walked out in the streets (in my case, Brooklyn), and saw your first missing person sign, one of hundreds you'd see over the coming months in Manhattan and the outer boroughs. Eight years later, it has recorded and archived more than 35,000 interviews from 70,000 participants. And, more recently, it has turned its focus to 9/11 and the days that followed. The goal: to memorialize in sound every person lost on that day. You can visit the emerging audio archive here.

Finland's greatest musical contribution talent: Ievan Polkka

"Ievan Polkka" or "Ievan Polokka" is a popular Finnish song with lyrics written in the early 1930s by Eino Kettunen to a traditional Finnish polka tune. The name is commonly misspelled Levan polkka, due to the similarity of lower-case L and upper-case i in sans-serif fonts. It is also known as "Loituma's Polka"
The melody of "Ievan Polkka" is very similar to Savitaipaleen polkka, and in South Karelia the Ievan Polkka is also known as "Savitaipaleen polkka". The melody is also very similar to a folk dance from the area of Smolensk in Western Russia, which is known as Smolenski gusačok ("смоленский гусачок"/"Small Gander in Smolensk")
